ARTIST WHO PAINTS USING FIRE

 

ARTIST SHIRLEY POPE SETS HER paintings on fire. Usually that’s the sign of something being destroyed, but not in Shirley’s case. Shirley adds a fire accelerant into one of her acrylic paint colors in her palette, then ignites after they have been applied to her medium of choice. 

 

This unconventional technique produces an element of unpredictability in Shirley’s work, something that Intrigues her even more. She says that fire, and its ability to be “both a constructive and destructive force is a constant factor in all of my creations.”

Using accelerants in her work is unconventional and cutting edge in the art world.  Shirley offers unique, one of a kind pieces of art.
